So often the very idea of ‘being healthy’ seems too far out of our reach. All we think of is being deprived of all the ‘good stuff’ in life and how much effort it takes to eat nutritious food and exercise regularly! Why can’t ‘being healthy’ be effortless; stirring up thoughts of abundance, satisfaction and joy rather? You may think I’m crazy, but there may just be a way…
. You may remember me touching on it briefly in previous articles, but the way to take our health to the next level couldn’t be easier! Without changing a single thing about our diets or how we go about our normal lives (hooray!), all we need to do is simply add in a few key nutrients and superfoods… What could be better? Eat more, get healthier! So what are these wondrous supplements? Here are my top 4... .
1. Omega 3 – 2 capsules of fish oil a day
I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times before, but Omega 3 really is a super nutrient and unfortunately we just don’t seem to get enough in our diet. But why is it so critical for our health you may ask? Well, it basically maintains the integrity and fluidity of our cell membranes, allowing the proper amounts of necessary nutrients to enter into our cells as well as ensuring that waste products are effectively and quickly removed out of the cell. Omega 3 equals healthy cells and therefore plays a vital role in pretty much every function in our body! They are called essential fatty acids because they are essential for good health. .
Make sure you get a high quality, pharmaceutical grade fish oil (pharmaceutical grade means all the heavy metals, contaminants and toxins have been removed from the oil) and look for an EPA and DHA content that adds up to roughly 1000 – 1500mg (these are the active ingredients in the fish oil). .
2. Vitamin D – 20mins in the sun or 1 D3 capsules a day
Otherwise known as ‘the sunshine vitamin,’ vitamin D is naturally produced in your body when your skin is exposed to direct sunlight without sunscreen. This makes this nutrient free!! Make it a habit to relax or play in the sun each day for 20 minutes or more. .
It is also known as the ‘vitamin of the decade,’ due to its numerous health advantages! Vitamin D plays an important role in increasing the flow of calcium into the bloodstream, enabling normal bone mineralization and sustaining a healthy skeletal system. Vitamin D also helps protect the skin and is used very effectively around the world to treat psoriasis, vitiligo and sclerodema. It helps balance and strengthen the immune system; protecting against colds and even auto-immune diseases and cancer. It even protects and maintains healthy brain function, lessening symptoms of depression, M.S and decreasing the symptoms of Parkinsons and Alzheimers. .
Just a note; if you are of an older age, have a darker skin, spend most of your day indoors or have kidney and/or liver disorders, you may be a risk for vitamin D deficiency. The best way to make sure is to get your vitamin D levels checked by your doctor. Vitamin D does come in supplement form, just make sure it is at least 1000IU’s and is in the D3 form. .
3. Superfood Green Powder – 1 scoop per day
Imagine with just one scoop of powder you could get more nutrients before breakfast than most people get in a week! Green powders are made up of specially selected, certified organic, wild harvested and wild crafted concentrates and extracts of the most nutrient dense foods found on earth! This dynamic combination of chlorophyll rich greens and algaes, freeze-dried sprouts, vegetables, fruits and berries, phytonutrients and enzymes, probiotics, mushrooms and herbal extracts as well as anti-oxidants and immune system regulators offers a complete, all-in-one solution for maintaining your daily health and well-being!
.
Just one scoop a day can provide sustained and steady energy throughout the day, enhance digestion and gastrointestinal function, improve circulation, regulate blood sugar levels, enhance your mental clarity, boost your immune system, assist in the removal of toxins from your body, enhance athletic endurance and recovery, greatly increase your sense of well-being as well as provide essential support for healthy aging. .
So exciting!... just a warning though, green powders very rarely taste good so make sure to mix your scoop in with some fruit juice, yogurt or a smoothie. Only the very brave can handle it in water! .
4. Raw or vegetable based Protein – 1 scoop per day (providing 15g-20g Protein)
The advances in food technology and nutrition that are happening in this day and age are quite outstanding. We now have vegetable, sprout, seed and rice based protein sources with all essential amino acids present in a form that is easily digested, tastes delicious and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and those with gastrointestinal sensitivities to milk, whey, gluten, eggs and soy. Best of all there are no fillers, no artificial flavours or sweeteners and no synthetic ingredients! Wow. .
Good quality protein is vital for the maintenance of optimal body weight, energy production and immune system functioning. Protein is also used in the formation of hormones, neurotransmitters and enzymes; the structure of muscles and other tissues such as the skin, hair and nails. .
All you need to do is add a scoop a day into your normal breakfast, food or beverages. If you are an athlete you can increase this to 2 scoops a day, one taken after training for effective muscle repair and regeneration. .
So that’s it! Just 4 easy additions each day is all it takes to take your health to the next level. And the best part is that all 4 can be achieved before 10.a.m! Why not start the day off with a scoop of green powder in a fresh vegetable or fruit juice, have a smoothie for breakfast with a scoop of raw protein powder, swallow 2 fish oil capsules and then relax in the sun for 20mins concentrating on your breathing and reflecting on how grateful you are for your health (or just swallow a D3 capsule if you do not have that luxury!). What a world of difference these small additions can make! |
